Life is the greatest teacher of all. It taught me that there are things we, as individuals, can control, and there are things we cannot. The cannot part really bugs me.
There are people who come and go in and out of our lives. Almost on a daily basis, and those are the ones we will never see again. That is something we cannot control. Mostly, that is a good thing. Like impatient drivers, rude people, the person at a random gas station, or even the annoying neighbor who plays the guitar endlessly and sings like Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam (he should know that Eddie Vedder sucks). Those are good things we cannot control when it comes to people.
As with most good things, however, there are bad things. We cannot control how other people act, to whom they talk, how they wish to handle themselves, or what they think of you. As much as it would be a good thing to know what other people, who are important to you, it is simply something we cannot control.
There is one thing we, as individuals, can control, and that is our reaction to those instances. We can control how we act toward the attitudes of others. We can be happy, angered, saddened, confused, etc., by what someone says or does.
It is in our best interest to not get extreme in our endeavors. What does that mean? To simply put it, do not let it bother you. If it does, then the person feeling bothered needs to reexamine what is taking place. That person is too emotionally involved and needs to take a step back from the scene.
I realize this is easier to say than do, but following through on this is not the worst idea in the world. Then again, this is just an observation, so I could be wrong.
Till next time...
